Transcript for "The Evolution of the Meeting Room":
Hi, everybody. This is Debbie again with LG. Thank you for joining our next episode of LG Meets. Today, we have with us display note, Luke McSorley, head of product, and Joe McCallion, product manager at DisplayNote, are gonna walk us through the second version of Launcher, which is really exciting. I can't wait to have this this webinar. So guys, I'm gonna go ahead and hand it over to you to introduce yourself. Thank you, Debbie, very much. Yeah. So my name is Luke. I'm the head of product here at DisplayNote, and I've been working in the, sort of the AV ad tech industry for almost twenty years now. And I'll I'm just gonna hold on to that almost for a couple more years. And I'm here today with, my colleague, Joe. Thanks, Luke. Yes. My name is Drew Motallion. I'm a product manager here at DisplayNote, and my role involves shaping our products and also working closely with our partners to help build solutions that are that are made with, end users in mind. So as we say, we're we're with DisplayNote. DisplayNote is a company that's been around for over over ten years now working in, as I said, the ed tech space and, the AV space. So we provide a lot of solutions for meeting rooms across the world as well as for classrooms just to try and make collaboration and communication as easy as possible and hopefully try and remove a bit of that stress in people's day to day lives when they're coming in and using these kind of meeting spaces. And today, we're gonna be talking about, Launcher, which is one of our products again for the meeting space area. And Launcher does a lot of things. It's got, call and app launching, call call launching and app launching. But as well, we're gonna touch on a little bit about our BYOD solution, Omni, which, is also something we offer, and our screen sharing solution, Montage. So we'll we'll run through all that and show you how it can sorta help shape your main space and make it a bit easier day to day to use. Awesome. Thank you so much for for sharing that with us. So we might as well go ahead and dive into the demo. Perfect. Sounds good. That's good. Thanks very much, Debbie. Yes. Well, let's now talk about Launcher. So for those of you who are familiar with Launcher version one, this may look a little bit different. This is our new product, which is coming coming very soon. And, basically, we take a lot of input from our users and sort of see what we can improve and make launcher better and more user user friendly for our end users. However, today, let's talk about launcher version two. And launcher is a a app and call option bit of software, and it does a few things. It's partially there to give you an agnostic approach to how you start your calls. We're not logged into Teams or Zoom or anything else. It could be whatever you use to to run your meetings, you can connect up to to to Launcher. It's a piece of software that runs on a Windows device, typically a Windows screen like this. And, usually, we it's running in, meeting rooms or huddle spaces and places like that, anywhere where you kind of, want to congregate and communicate across, multiple places at once. It's also there for the IT admin. So it allows the IT admin to set up, all the spaces in their in their other spaces in the meeting rooms and across their offices to be the same, to have that same approach. So no matter where you walk into, you're familiar with what's going on in the front. You can do things like customized interface as well to have a different background and so on to, again, just bring that customization down and that control down. But we will touch on that a little bit more. So when a user walks into the room, they they can see this nice clean interface that's gonna help them know exactly what they need to do. On the right hand side of the screen, we've got the room calendar, and that will show you show them the meetings that they've got coming up. And it's really important to note that this doesn't matter if it's a Zoom meeting, a a Teams meeting, a a Google meeting, Webex. Whatever it happens to be, it will be there in the room calendar as long as they've invited the room to the meeting. And when they're ready to start the meeting, all they need to do is press launch meeting, and it's gonna start. As you can see, the meeting's now getting ready, and it's connecting. So now they're up and running. They can run that meeting, and they'll see everyone else as they join. Just gonna leave this one now and go back to the home screen. So we're back in the home screen. So, again, it's worth it is worth noting that it doesn't matter the next day when they come in. It's not a Zoom meeting. It will be the same thing. Again, they just need to to press up launch meeting. At the minute, I've got privacy turned on. So people, when they walk in, they don't see upcoming, is Luke's meeting about what it's about. So you don't have any concerns, if there's sensitive information in the subject title for your meeting. You can have that hidden so all they know is that Luke has a meeting and it's about to start. As well, you can see what's coming up next. And then if you hit the view all button, you'll see anything else that's going on in that day. So you have a clear clear idea of what's being what that room is being used for, for today. If we now look across to the left hand side, we have the app launching section of launcher, which is the other kind of main part of our call and app launching product. And here, you can put any apps that you want to use regularly. So we've got a few example things here. For example, we've got our a link to our academy page, which has information, about, launcher, how you set it up, how you run it, and so on, which is a really good resource if you wanna go down and visit that to get more information. But we can simply click one of these apps, and it's going to launch in the background. So we've now got our web page launched, and we can scroll around and do whatever we need to do. In the left hand side here, I'll step back a little bit so you can see it. We've got our, little menu that will always be here whenever you leave launcher, and that gives you access to the keyboard and the, home button. Pressing the home button will bring you back into launcher. So you're back in there to launch your next meeting or launch another application. Everything here is customizable. So you can decide what apps are here. It's, it's not a case of we're saying that. It's for you or the IT admin that said that. And once they said that, they can set that across all the rooms in within their building or across their organization. I'm I'm now gonna talk to you about our quick actions panel. So I'm just gonna step over this side. And on the bottom left hand side of the screen, you can see some of the actions. Now, again, for those familiar with launcher version one, there was a lot of stuff up here. There were some close buttons, minimize buttons up here, some more stuff around here around cleanup. This is all they moved down into this panel down here, and everything on that panel can be turned off. So if you don't want to show, the settings button or the x button or whatever, you can turn them off, and they'll be they will be, available on this panel. Well, I'll just walk through what each each one of these things does. We've got the settings, which is where you can go and manage all the settings at the screen. But as I said, we now have central management, which Stu is gonna talk to you about shortly. You also have the exit button, again, to just close down launcher, the show desktop button, which will turn you get you down to the Windows desktop. And then this one here is a really important one to talk about. It's a run cleanup. So within launcher, obviously, you're running your meetings, you're launching applications. After a meeting's over and you want to clean that up, you can hit run cleanup to get a confirmation, and it's gonna run that cleanup. And it will leave that device as it was whenever you walked into the room. The important thing as well is that this can be completely controlled by the IT admin. They can set what's removed, so you can set any folders that you want to be deleted. You can set any applications that you want closed or signed out of. And if you wanna clear all the web browsing data, for example, you could set that up as well. You can also set up scripts to run before or after, the cleanup process runs, and you can also schedule when that happens. So it can be a case if you want it to run after every call, ever after every meeting's ended, which you can do. You can have it run every hour. You can have it run at the end of the day. Or, indeed, you can have it run whenever activity is low. So you can set it up to once the screen kinda goes into idle mode, then, the cleanup will will happen. I'm now gonna go into settings and talk I'll show you that in a little bit more detail and talk through some of our parts. So to access the settings, you will have to enter a PIN, and this is set up whenever you are setting up your screen. So that just means that only those who need to access and can access the, settings are able to. Please enter by PIN. So we're now inside the, settings. And, again, as I say, this anything you can do here, you can do from the central management piece as well. So you've got everything down the left hand side. For example, if you wanna go and edit some shortcuts, add an application, a web link, a network driver, a video source can also be added in. So if you want to link directly to an external, video feed, you can do that, or an external drive for for for data and so on, you can do that. You can you can change the appearance. You can change the wallpapers, or you can add a company logo, which will appear on the top right hand side of the screen. And if we go down to security is where you can manage, the PIN and then the cleanup, which we talked about just there now. So if you go into cleanup, you can see there's a lot of different things you can do. You can set that it runs when the meeting ends, when the user disconnects. You can set up the scripts to run, before or after cleanup. So, for example, we have some users that set up scripts to whenever cleanup's finished. It restarts the the computer because that will do some further cleanup steps that they like doing. You can also set up folders that you want to be deleted at the end of cleanup and some applications that you want closed or signed out of. And, again, further data can be deleted. We do have a basic cleanup setup there, but we we recommend that you run free free, the full steps. And, again, if you go to academy.splano.com, you can get a lot more information about cleanup, how to set it up, and how it works. If we go to general, you can then see some further things you can do. For example, you've got auto update you can turn on. This allows you to set the time that the updates run. So, if you know what midnight every night is a quiet time, you can make sure that screens are all updated at that time. So when people come in the next day, it's ready to go. As well as you have the room calendar settings. So with the room calendar, you can have either an exchange room calendar, a Microsoft exchange room calendar, or a Google calendar integrate integrated. As well as we'll jump in the display, and this is where you can manage that kinda bottom left hand panel to turn off what you want. So, for example, I can turn off cleanup if I don't want to have the the option for people to man manually do that. I only want it to have happen automatically. I don't want people to access the desktop. I don't want people to exit the exit the application. I'll leave the settings on. I can turn all that off, and whenever I go away from from the screen now. So, yeah, as you as you can see now, the quick action panel is now clear, and the only thing we can do is access the settings. I'm gonna go back in the settings now and show you one last thing. If you go back to security, you'll see this kiosk mode. So what kiosk mode allows you to do is completely lock down the system. Once kiosk mode is on, the system will reboot, and only only those apps that you want access to will be accessible. So only the if we turn that on and went back here, people could launch any of these applications, but they couldn't get to the desktop. It just gives the IT admin a bit more peace of mind that they know that the system's secure and their users are only using the things that they need to use. The other new feature coming to version two is the screen saver. So think of it as light digital signage. It just allows you to turn these large screens that are in your meeting spaces and, you know, I thought about your office, into light digital signage. So you can share information around the company about a new hire or some, some new policies that you've got going on. Or in these spaces as well, you could use them to have, if you're an architect firm, for example, you could have your brochures up there. So last, you've got people coming in, for a meeting. They'll see all the great work that you've been doing. So there we go. It will come up after a set amount of time. You can set that yourself, and you can set how long it changes and so on. And it will stay up there until someone comes up and interacts with the screen to remove it. So once they interact with the screen, it's now gone, and it's back into, the launcher interface. The last thing I'm gonna talk to you about is widgets. So with launcher version two, we're wanting to make it a lot more customizable because that's the feedback that we were getting. We want to get people the control over how the screen looks. They want we want to be able to allow people to move things around, resize them, and, I guess, change how how they're set up. So to show you some of that, I'll just quickly run through some slides, and I'll show you a very brief version of it. So if we open up these slides, as I say, the first thing that's going you'll be able to do is move, any of those panels around, like the app panel, for example. You'll be able to resize it, and then you'll be able to shuffle the apps around as well so you can have them laid out in the way you want. But over the next kinda couple months, we're gonna be taking that forever. We're gonna be allowing you the ability to add and remove things as well. So if you don't really need any widgets or any apps, sorry, you can delete them, make the clock bigger, and just have the calendar. If, for example, you're the other side side of the fence and you actually don't need the calendar, all you need is some apps, again, we're gonna give you the ability ability to do that. You'll be able to remove the calendar, resize the apps, and just have that as the focus. And then longer term, with Launcher, we're gonna be bringing in our, our screen sharing solutions, alright, AirPlay and Chromecast, particularly, under BYOD solution only, which allows you to walk in with your device and connect to the meeting rooms, cameras, mics, and speakers. We're gonna be bringing them into the product as well, and they will be there as widgets. So if you wanted to only have AirPlay available, you could again delete everything and just have the instructions on how to join AirPlay. So that's a very brief example of what's gonna happen with widgets. As I say, you'll be able to move stuff around. You'll be able to change how it looks and, what what apps and and so on are there. And we've talked around a couple of times, central management, and that's one of the really big things with version two that we're really excited for. We really wanna make sure that, the IT admins have complete control over these screens. No matter where they are, they don't need to be in the same building. They don't need to be in the same room. From the comfort of their laptop, they can set up these screens how they want, and they can manage them and edit them. So we're now gonna jump across to Joe, and he's gonna show you, how central management will work and walk you through that. Thank you very much, Luke. Yes. So I'm going to show you our, central management platform. So just as a bit of a backstory very quickly, this came from feedback that we received from users. And, essentially, the pinpoint that they would have had was if they have multiple rooms in various locations, and they wanted to set it up and make changes to their settings, they would have to physically go to each screen. And as you can imagine, that's what they would like to avoid. They would like to be able to do that remotely from one location, and that's where our central management platform will now come in. So that will allow you the IT admin to make any changes that they want, right from the comfort of their own laptop. So I'm gonna show you, a bit more detail now. So I will go across into users firstly, and I'll just talk about the different types of users that you can have on the platform. So there are three types of users. Starting with Lianne, you can see that she's listed as an operator. What that means is she can only see displays that are linked to her group. Therefore, she cannot see any other display that is in the organization unless it has been added to her group. She can make whatever changes she wants. She can change the settings. She can change the look of the displays, but she cannot have access to all of the displays. On the other hand, myself, I'm listed as an admin. What that means is I can see all of the displays, all of the groups that are within the organization. I can make any changes that I want, and I can also create new groups as well. And then finally, Look is listed as an owner. The only difference between an admin and an owner is that Look can add and remove users. Moving forward into the access, these are the groups that I have mentioned there previously. So as you can see in DisplayNote Technologies, we have three here. We have Belfast, we have Mercia, and we also have remote devices. So if I go into here, you can see the devices that have been linked to that group. You can also see the users that have access. So going back to what I said, Lianne was an operator. She doesn't have access to all, groups, but she has been given access to the remote devices group. That means that Lian is able to go in and see Loops PC, and she can make changes there. If I go back and go into the Belfast group, you'll see that Lian is also here. But if I decide that that Lian should not have access there, I can remove her, update the group. And when I go back to overview, you'll see that Lian is no longer here. Within this group, as you can see, I can also see the devices, that are, within this group and the license key as well. Moving forward into the licenses, this page allows me to see all of the licenses that are linked to my organization. And a great thing here is that it gives you remote access to be able to see the licenses, how many activations are available, how many activations are left, and also when it expires, which allows you to plan in advance for your renewal. Moving forward into the settings template. So this came from feedback that we got from our users, and a biggest pinpoint for them would have been how manual it was to set up each room. They would have to go into the room, set it up how they would like, and then we did have a feature to export those settings that they could then import into other rooms, but the pinpoint came there where they would have to physically go to each room in order to import and make that room look the same as the others. With this, with settings templates, this allows us to remove that pinpoint by making it all possible fully remote. They can log in to here. They can create their templates. And as you can see in display note here, we have a demo setup, and we also have a meeting room setup. So if I go into the details, I can see exactly what this means. So I can change what's shown on the display. I can change shortcuts, and I can change the appearance as well. The good thing about templates is maybe I set this up a year ago and things change. I want to make changes. I can come in and I can make any changes to these, templates that I want, and then I can roll them out whenever to whatever devices I would like. Moving forward into the devices tab, I'm just going to update this group to Belfast. And now you can see the displays that are linked within that group. So I can see the license key and also the displays that are linked there. So as you can see on the left here, I have the Romanian Goliath. I can see that this displays online. I can see that the kiosk mode is currently disabled, the version it's on, and when it expires. I can also see that for this room here, Samsung. And I also have the option to restart or turn off that display. If I press on the settings cog, similar to what I showed you with the settings template, I can then make changes within the settings of this display. For example, if I move in to here and I turn off some things like the exit off button, the device audio, and the link to desktop. If I update this, you'll see on this main display, those changes are being applied. And if you look to the bottom left, you'll see that those buttons have now been removed. Within the device view, I also have this option of bulk selection. So if I enable this and I select all, you'll see that both of these screens have now been selected. And if I go into the settings, I'm now making changes on both of the screens. So for example, if I go down to appearance and I decide to change the wallpaper, if I update this, you'll see that the change happens on the screen. And there it has been applied, and I have done all of that remotely. That change will also happen on the other device. You can see on the top right that I also have the option to load in the template that I talked about earlier here. So this is just our first phase of central management. We have plenty more ideas for it. But more importantly, we'd love to hear your feedback and what matters most to you when it comes to central management. Thank you very much. I'm gonna hand back over to Luke now. Thank you, Drew, for running us for your central management. The other thing I wanna talk to you about, is our other two of our other products, Montage and Omni. So Montage, I'll just launch it now, is our, screen sharing, application. It allows you to multiple people share a screen up up to the big screen at once. It gives you control over who shares, so you can have complete control over when people share. You can stop or stop people. But it has built into its ability to share by AirPlay, Chromecast, Miracast, or using our own applications, our web browser, or even mobile phone applications. I'm just gonna very quickly show you that how AirPlay works and how fast it is. So if I have my iPad, I'm just gonna pull down and connect to an AirPlay device. I can see Samsung, which is our screen here. I'm connected. And you can see straight away, I'm up and running and for instant connection and a fast connection as well. So that's very quickly, montage. We jump back as well to Launcher. We also have Omni, which is our BYOD solution that allows you to walk into a room with your laptop and connect, to the to the camera mic and speakers that are running at the front of the room and use them from the comfort of your laptop to run a run a meeting. And as I say, those features are gonna find their way into launcher over the next while. So that's launcher version two that you'll be able to get access to in September. For anyone using the launcher version one at the minute, you will get an update, and we'll we'll be able to jump straight across into launcher version two. There you go. Thank you very much. Thanks, Debbie. Hey, everybody. So it doesn't look like, it doesn't look like we have any questions from the audience. But, you know, the one thing that that I wanted to say, like, at the at the most highest level, right, is that when we talk about the evolution of the meeting room, at its most basic, the first thing that catches my attention is, this works with the tools you already use. Right? So when you when it comes to ease of use, it's not like you have to go, you know, download something new or get new subscriptions. Display note launcher works, to your advantage and it works for you. So that's something that I thought was was really cool. So I wanna put you guys on the spot here though. I wanna ask you, what are your top, let's say, three or whatever favorite things about DisplayNote Technologies launcher and, and and why and why it really helps our audience here understand that meetings can be completely simplified, secure, and customizable. Yeah. I mean, there's lots, but I think particularly with launcher version two of what we've got coming up, the thing that, I guess, excites me a lot is is that customization piece. Because these these screens in these rooms and in the huddle spaces and wherever you've got them around your organization, They're they're real estate that's there for you to use and to you to try and, you know, you know, sell yourself, sell what your company does, show off what you do and so on. And it's just that ability to customize and make it what you need. It's so important. And the more we have been speaking to our our customers over the last couple of years, you know, people are very good at telling you what, you know, here's an idea for a feature I wanna have or here's this thing that I want to do. And the more we listen to those features and things that they're asking about, we kinda drill down and they didn't really want an option in the settings to turn a button off. What they actually wanted is to have complete control over what the screen is and what it does. So that was what got us thinking about customization and the widgets as well, and that's really what I'm excited about for the kinda next evolution, I guess, of launch or where we're gonna go with that. Just being able to get us complete control over the screen, how it looks, what the functionality is. You don't you only want app launching, so you can just have app launching or or or whatever that happens to be. So that's probably one of my top ones. Joe? Yeah. For me, my top one, and I spoke about it there, would be central management that's come on with this version too. It simplifies, you know, the job of the admin. That's something that I personally have have felt at times. You know, we have many displays around this office. I'm making those changes. Okay. We could export the settings, but I still have to physically go to those screens and set them up. I talked earlier about our office site in Mercia. You know, I'm having to send over the settings for those guys to do. But with central management, I it it removes the stress and just makes it a lot easier for me to be able to set up everything and all admins as well. They can set up whatever they need. And it also allows that consistency across the business. You know, you're not going into the rooms and having a different experience. You're having the same experience throughout multiple sites or multiple rooms. And so, yeah, I think that's really what what it's open for me. Definitely. So and central management as well is one of those ones that has come up over the years a lot when you're speaking to to customers, you know, particularly with the IT admins. They they love the functionality. They they love when the room's set up, but it is that pain that they have to go to that room to set it up. So given that control to to the IT admins is is really, really important important for us. I guess as well then, there's all the stuff that Launcher's already doing that it's still doing. So it's all that, you know, for us. Security is a is a is a big part of it as well for us. So, you know, you can lock that screen down if you want to, things like kiosk mode. You know, you can, make sure the cleanup runs when it's when you need it to. So at the end of the meetings, everything's cleaned up and ready to go for the next one. So, you know, launcher does a lot of stuff. The, I guess, the the app launching and the call launching is it's just the start of it really and then you've got all that control and so on that you can do on top of that. That's so cool. And, you know, I love that you are literally incorporating customer feedback in what you're doing next. You're not just sort of doing your r and d in a bubble. You are listening to your customers, understanding what they need, and then taking the steps to move forward, on the next one. Thank you guys so much for joining us. I am going to, put in, the comments here, team, to go to createboard.com. So, you guys, if you want a, a custom demo of either display note launcher or create board or both of those together, just go ahead and, and and enter that that your information and get a demo. And we we work together, so we'll we'll get you what you need regardless of how, how how that demo is shaped up. So just go to createboard.com. In addition, if you guys look at that docs tab, you see docs right there. That will take you to createboard.com. And then there's also a really great flyer here that gives you information on both the LG CreateBoard as well as DisplayNote Technologies Technologies launcher too, and it gives you some of the highlights as well. And, by the way, we are also going to do another webinar with DisplayNote Technologies, and we're gonna talk about some some more products here over the next quarter. So everybody look out for that. We will definitely have another episode of LG meets with DisplayNote Technologies. So until then, everybody have a great week. Thanks, guys. Cheers. Thank you very much. Welcome. Speak soon.
